A Celebration of STEM in Harlem

On May 13th 2023, the 11th Anniversary of the Super Saturday STEM Expo will take place in Harlem, NY. Super Saturday is the premier event in Harlem for those interested in experiencing hands-on activities and demonstrations related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). In addition to the long-standing support of Abyssinian Development Corporation, and the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem, the Expo is also proud to welcome new partners ELiTE and TechRow.

This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. It will feature STEM projects presented by Harlem’s own District 5 PRE K-12 students, as well as interactive exhibits from some of NYC’s most prominent museums and science & technology centers. Representatives from local colleges, afterschool programs, non-profits, and government agencies will be available to answer questions. Successful STEM professionals will also be in attendance to provide mentoring, college and career guidance.

The annual math and chess tournaments will open the Expo followed by a series of Coding Seminars. There will be live demonstrations, dissections, aviation simulation, robotics competitions, a virtual reality and BioBus experience, GOOGLE Expeditions, an amazing new technology showcase and a Mad Science Finale!

Since the inception of Super Saturday, it’s amazing to see how much STEM has flourished in Harlem. Student participation and community engagement is on pace to be the highest ever this year. “Ten years later, STEM now has a clear and lasting role to play in expanding opportunities for Harlem’s children.” Said Superintendent Danika Rux, “I look forward to seeing the next generation of STEM professionals come out of our community, and our schools!”
